President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to the Senate in a letter asking for their support in sending military forces to Niger Republic.
It was revealed that prior to cutting off Nigeria’s power supply to the neighboring West African country, the President had sought the lawmakers’ approval on this.

ECOWAS has placed sanctions on Niger since the coup and threatened military intervention if democracy is not restored by the junta.
On Niger’s Independence Day, supporters of the coup demonstrated against ECOWAS intervening as well as calling upon Russia to replace France in the country.
The French Embassy was also attacked which led to France withdrawing its troops from the West African country. The United Kingdom, America and United Nations have all condemned the coup.
