The self-acclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafran Republic, Simon Ekpa, has issued a warning to owners of oil companies operating in the South-East who defy the illegal sit-at-home order in the region on Monday.
Ekpa, who issued this warning via his Twitter account, urged the companies to deny rumors that the sit-at-home order had been cancelled. He added that if they followed the false news of the sit-at-home cancellation and resumed operations on Monday, they would face significant consequences.
Recall that IPOB members on Sunday distributed flyers and posted banners to inform people in the region that the sit-at-home order had been cancelled, and that individuals could go ahead with their activities on Monday.
However, in reaction to this development, Ekpa claimed that the only entity recognized by the southeast people as having the authority to make such a decision is the Biafran government in exile. He added that such an order could not stand if the group’s demands were yet to be met, which include the release of Nnamdi Kanu and the actualization of the Republic of Biafra.
He said: “Tomorrow being Monday, there is a need for oil companies to shut-down and hold on until 18th as well as take a break every Monday that follows this.
“If you decide to operate, be ready to face the company citizens of Biafra. Our land does not belong to you but it belongs to us. You are only taking our oils from its real owners.
“Those lands and the petroleum do not belong to you. On one hand, although you possess contracts and agreements with Nigeria’s government they are continuously reviewed.”
