A tragic incident sparked chaos at Araromi Ilogbo Secondary School in Oko Afo, Lagos, as students of the school protested against the death of one of their peers who was reportedly beaten to death by a teacher.
GistRepotters.com leant that the event happened on Thursday when the teacher, named Oluwale, flogged the victim, David Babadipo, who had been sick for some days.
The 16-year-old was taken to a hospital after the beating where he was pronounced dead.
In a video that is making round on social media on Friday, showed many students of the school running around inside and outside the school grounds.
A voice in the video explained that the dead student had wanted to buy something when he was flogged by a teacher, which resulted in his death.
A netizen who commented on the video, an X user, Mama Sassy D, claimed the incident took place at her vicinity. And people ‘have started rioting already. The said teacher might not survive this period.’
However, a Facebook user, Esther Wusu, denied that the student died from the flogging, and said that the teacher’s name was actually the school’s vice principal.
Esther post reads, “First and foremost, Mr Oluwale is a Vice Principal and he didn’t beat him for not paying attention in class because he doesn’t teach, he didn’t even beat him at all.
“That child has (sic) been sick since Tuesday and the parent didn’t take him to the hospital. It got worse yesterday afternoon after the break and they called his parent to come to pick him up.”
At the time of this publication, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, had not confirmed if the case was reported to the police.
