According to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Election Oversight Committee is made up of 7 members and has committed to equitable, impartial and transparent process for the 16 contestants seeking to become governor in Ondo State.
In a meeting with Journalists held in Akure, secretary to the committee Senator Omo-Agege said that the group’s NGO status does not allow it to be seen as taking any position before the primary.
Senator Omo-Agege explained that “We will begin verifying the party’s 172,025 identified members from 10:00am – 11:00am; voting follows immediately thereafter ending at 2:00pm.
He was hopeful, stating that, “We expect this procedure to be smooth and peaceful. It is an intra-party contest as opposed to general elections.
“We differ in that we are a progressive party within a progressive state under APC governance. We aim at having another eight years with APC after this tenure.
“We believe strongly that our party’s nominee will win the election proper. All bidders have been reminded that competition should be kept friendly.
“Our presence here is not influenced by any preconceived decisions; we are dedicated to conducting a fair primary. This directive is our guiding principle.
“The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, representing his governor, will join us tomorrow morning. The governor himself chairs our committee.
“This assurance has been communicated to all candidates, reinforcing our commitment to a fair process. The victor will be decided on the ground, without dispute.
“Our role is to facilitate the election, not to address issues stemming from the membership update.
“From what I’ve been informed, the updated register shows a minor discrepancy of less than 1,200 compared to the official membership list approved by INEC.
“As a dynamic party, it’s our prerogative to update our membership, as affiliations and commitments change over time.
“Through this update, we’ve identified active financial contributors, who will be the ones eligible to vote.
“The provided register reflects a reduced count from the original, ensuring no concerns of over-voting. The eligible voters are those listed in the updated register.
He concluded, “This clarification has been made to the candidates, and they have expressed their understanding and comfort with the arrangement.”
