An Ikeja court on Friday sentenced Feyi Daniels, the founder of iReign Christian Ministry, to life imprisonment for the rape of a female member of his church.
The judge of the case, Rahman Oshodi, convicted the charge for rape and sexual assault against the Lagos-based preacher.
According to The Punch Newspaper, he said three out of the four women whom the bishop claimed had framed him in a sexual abuse case were testifying against him. He had deposed in his defence.
The primary prosecution lawyerBabajide Boye, in his effort, had established that he was in some sort of ‘intimate relationship’ with the four women.
He said the Bishop had paid N100,000 to one of the ladies for medical bills, paid another money for her school fees, and he had a close relationship with a third as a leader of his campus group at Akungba-Akobo in Ondo State.
The Bishop has denied giving such money to one of the ladies for treatment. He said,
When asked why all the women’s allegations were about sex, the Bishop said he did not know.
Beya also said that the pastor used his pastoral grace on people who came to him for advice.
The prosecutor continued to question the defendant,
The defendant also said he did not change the WhatsApp messages between him and one of his alleged victims.
The prosecutor also attempted to tender four statements that the defendant purportedly wrote last year while in police custody.
Defence lawyer Adebayo Adegbite opposed the acceptance of the statements on the grounds that they were not written by the defendant, saying that the Bishop signed the statements under duress.
In his ruling, Judge Rahman Oshodi accepted the documents.
He said: “Under sections 9(3) and (4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, 2021, the existence of a video testimony of theAPP is desirable but not mandatory.
“I will admit the documents and later consider the evidential value to place on them. The objection of the defence is hereby overruled.
