As a result of their involvement in suspected acts of extortion, it has been decided by the Kano State Hospitals Management Board to terminate the employment of three staff from Kabo General Hospital while another three are on suspension.
This decision was taken by Dr. Mansur Nagoda, Executive Secretary of the board following an unplanned visitation to the hospital.
It was conveyed in a statement signed by Samira Suleiman, through the Public Relations Officer for Hospitals Management Board and issued on Monday.
According to this press release, there were three x-ray department personnel who were charging patients 12,000 Naira for procedures worth 2,000 Naira without any official receipts being issued to them. This led to less than ten x-rays being performed every week in that hospital despite it having two operational x-ray machines.
For taking advantage of patients under their care, Dr. Nagoda ordered for immediate dismissal of the trio. Again he instructed that the Accountant, Auditor and Laboratory Head be put on suspension from work with regards to selling HIV test kits that had been supplied free by the state government without authority; they should present themselves at headquarters of the board where further disciplinary measures will be meted on them.”
The condition of the Labour ward, which lacked bed sheets, had no compound officers present and contained untouched equipment as well as COVID-19 supplies that had been donated four years earlier was flagged by Dr. Nagoda.
Dr. Nagoda also repeated that punitive measures against those involved should serve as a deterrent hence he insisted on integrity among his members of staff. He said so in disappointment over continued patient exploitation in spite of efforts by the state government to ensure fair compensation under the CONHESS salary scale.
During this visit, Dr. Muhammad Abbas, Director-General of Kano Centre for Disease Control and Dr. Usman Bashir, Director-General of State Agency for Control AIDS accompanied Dr Nagoda.
