The Kaduna State Government has announced the release of the abducted 287 schoolchildren of the LEA Primary School Kuriga and Junior Secondary School.
The state governor, Senator Uba Sani, made this known to the public in a post shared on his official Facebook page in the early hours of Sunday.
Governor Sani, who did not give details to how the children was released, thanked President Bola Tinubu, the military, and the National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu for their efforts.
In a post, he conveyed: “I wish to inform the public that our Kuriga school children have regained their freedom. We thank our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), for his dedication to safeguard and to secure Nigerians and especially ensuring that the abducted Kuriga school children are released unharmed.
“While the school children were being held hostage, I spoke with President Tinubu several times. He shared our pains, comforted us and worked round the clock with us to ensure that the children return safely.”
Recall bandits had stormed the premises of the school in Kuriga, a town in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state on March 7 and reportedly abducted 287 students, and one Mr. Abubakar Isah, who is a principal.
The school abduction triggered uproar in the country, and many called on the Federal Government to exercise its power by bringing the children back home, and not allowing q repeat of the Chibok Girls incident in Borno State in 2014. Tp date, the girls have not been completed rescued from Boko Haram terrorists.
According to reports, the abduction in Kurigs school happened around 8am immediately after the assembly session.
While the children were in captivity, both President Tinubu and Governor Sani vowed not to pay ransom after the bandits demanded N1 billion from the family of the victims to release them.
