The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, on Monday, called on security agencies to go after the sponsors of communal violence in the state.
Mutfwang’s charges came following the communal clash between Langtang North and Mikang Local Government Areas of the state on Saturday and Sunday, which resulted to the destruction of properties and harm to ordinary locals.
The governor, who condemned the violence in a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, described the clash unnecessary and unacceptable.
He also emphasised the need for the communities leaders to dialogue among each other to resolve the problem, calling it the most civilised and effective means to end conflict.
The governor called on security agencies to respond decisively and to make sure that the perpetrators and their sponsors are held accountable as he seeks to establish a lasting peace and unity in the state.
The statement read, “The security agencies are being called on to respond decisively and to go after the perpetrators and their sponsors. They must face the full wrath of the law. The governor also used vcalled for a swift mobilisation to the affected areas to prevent further escalation or reoccurrence.
“In order to strengthen an atmosphere of harmony and unity, the governor urged traditional, community, and religious leaders, and key stakeholders in the affectedness community’s to initiate a dialogue and work towards amicably resolution. Governor Mutfwang is dedicated to establishing a lasting peace throughout the state, and he looks forward to a united, tranquil, and thriving Plateau where everyone will support one another in the spirit of brotherhood regardless of faith or ethnicity.”
