Ali Ciroma, the former chairman of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC)//® is dead.
He died on a Tuesday at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State.
Ali Ibrahim Ciroma, who is a cousin and also serves as Secretary in Borno State Council for Nigeria Union of Journalists gave out this information on that same Tuesday through a press release.
The statement said, “With great sorrow I share the news about Comrade Ali Ciroma’s death. He breathed his last on April 2nd, Tuesday evening at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.”
His burial will take place next Wednesday at 4 pm at his house located on No.7A, Galadima Road near Muhammadu Shuwa Memorial Hospital (Nursing Home) Maiduguri
Ciroma was president of NLC from 1984 until 1988 when it was disbanded by President Babangida’s military administration. Later in Abacha regime Ciroma returned to unionism and became full-time administrator for National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers in Nigeria.
