An FCT High Court has adjourned the hearing of the case filed against Godwin Emefiele to August 23, after his co-defendant failed to appear in court on Thursday.
GistReporters gathered at court today, the suspended CBN Governor was there, but his co-defendant Sa’adat Yaro was not, so the arraignment could not take place.
The Federal Government had withdrawn its initial charges of illegal gun possession against Emefiele and slammed him and the second defendant Sa’adat with 20 fresh charges.
Sa’adat, who is a female employee of the Central Bank, was supposed to be arraigned alongside her company April 1616 Investment Limited on 20 charges of procurement fraud, conspiracy, and conferring corrupt.
According to the representative of the Federal Government, Mohammed Abubakar told Justice Hamza Muazu that Saadat could not make it to the court after she fell ill in the morning.
An apology was tendered to the judge and requested a new date for the arraignment.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Akinlolu Kehinde, who argued in favor of Emefiele, did not raise any objections to the request for a postponement.
Justice Muazu then scheduled August 23 as the new date for the hearing.
Emefiele has been in the detention of DSS since he was suspended from office by President Bola Tinubu, a week after he took office.
