The Federal Government on Monday declared that it has invited Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi over his comments regarding banditry in the country.
The Nigerian Government made this known to the public through the Minister of Information Mohammed Idris on Monday.
The Minister, who disclosed this to journalists at the State House in Abuja, said Sheikh Gumi is not above the law. While he also appreciated the armed forces for ther efforts in releasing the abducted students of the Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in Kuri&@, a town within the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In Minister Idris’ words, “No ransom was paid (to the bandits to release the students and their teachers). The President Bola Tinubu’s government will do whatever it takes to extract any kind of information to solve our country. The military is up and doing.
“Sheikh Gumi or any other individual are not above the law, if he has any suggestions that are gopd and constructive enough to aid the military, they will take it.
“And if they find his statement appear to be recklessn then he will be reprimanded. No one is above the law
law, I’m aware that Gumi has also been a guest of security agencies to answer questions.”
Recall that Gumi had offered to negotiate with the bandits for the released of hostages. Before the Kaduna schoolchildren regained their freed, the cleric urged Federal Government to pay ransom and not to emulate former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Gumi also criticised the government for naming financiers of terrorism, saying that no Nigeria would invest in banditry. He claimed that the bandits fund their operations with thw ransom they received from family members of kidnapped victims.
Many Nigerians have called on the government to arrest the cleric for hi utterances.
