Lead British International School in Abuja will remain closed for three days due to a troubling video that has emerged showing bullying on its premises, the school authorities stated.
This closure was announced at a press conference held at the school’s location on Tuesday which had concerned guardians in attendance.
The decision to close down temporarily is a direct response to the public’s outrage over the videos circulating online; where young girl is seen being subjected both physical and verbal assault by her colleagues.
The alarming video clip depicts a young lady getting slapped several times by another student during what appears as an inquisition event.
As a result, there has been widespread condemnation and urgent calls for immediate actions towards curbing bullying cases within the educational community.
On Tuesday, Abraham Ogunkambi made public remarks regarding this matter as the Principal of Lead British International School.
During his speech, he condemned what happened saying that it was against school policy and confirmed that investigations were already underway about these developments.
“The administration of the school is handling this issue with the highest level of gravity,” declared Ogunkambi.
According to him, the institution also reached out to the affected student as well as her family and offered them support services and counseling that would help them cope with mental disturbance and emotional distress caused by the incident.
