Abductors of Tony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State have reportedly contacted family members of the politician to demand N500 million as ransom.
GistReporters.com learned that this development came to light after a source who chose to remain anonymous interacted with journalists in Benin on Sunday.
According to the source, the abductors contacted Aziegbwmi’s family members on Friday and demanded that they pay N500 million as ransom to release him.
The source was quoted saying, “said, “The kidnappers have made contact with the family of Mr. Tony Aziegbemi, and they have want the sum of N500 million to be paid as ransom.
“I am not aware of what his family members are doing to source for the money or if his political party, the PDP, is doing anything to assist them.”
Recall that on March 15, 2024, Aziegbemi was kidnapped by armed gunmen from his car on Idaro Street, off Country Home Road, Benin, Edo State.
The incident is said to have occured at around 11pm after leaving a meeting held at the Government Home. His driver was driving him back to his residence when the armed gunmen waylaid and kidnapped him after the attempt by his driver to climb a speed breaker failed.
However, when the state’s PRO, SP Chidi Nwabuzor was contacted to comment on the ransom he told the Punxh Newspaper that he could not confirm such demsn.
In his words, “I cannot comment on any ransom demand. I can only confirm what I have knowledge of.”
