The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that a 10-year-old boy, called Israel, was involved in the strangulation of his peer, Ezekiel, in a community football match at Powerline, Ejigbo area of the State.
According to the PUNCH Online, the incident which happened on Friday, stated that at the moment on the field of play, Israel and Ezekiel began to argue. In the interim, it is said that Israel laid hands on Ezekiel and strangled him causing him to lose consciousness and stop breathing.
The next day, Punch said it received details from a police source who stated, “On Friday, there was report at Ejigbo Division. The complainant explained how his son by name Israel was playing football with other children at Oluwole Street near his mother’s shop in Powerline Ejigbo when he had misunderstanding with Ezekiel. While quarreling with one another Israel was seen strangling Ezekiel leading to his early death.”
Emergency services were called immediately and Ezekiel was rushed to a nearby hospital; however he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending doctor despite all efforts made by the medical personnel involved.
Local police investigators responded to the scene, documented and took Ezekiel’s body to General Hospital Isolo.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this fact. He said “Ezekiel’s corpse has been transferred to the mortuary for an autopsy examination.” Meanwhile Israel is under arrest as police keep on investigating.”
This incident has cast a dark cloud over the neighborhood to show that play can sometimes have unexpected dangerous effects even among children.
