Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández has dismissed reports linking Ansu Fati to sign for Real Madrid, and described it as a joke.
Xavi’s remarks was coming after Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti refused to rule out a possible move for the 20-year-old forward, who has had series of injuries playing for the LaLiga giant.
Fati did not had the best of season at Barca last season as he suffered a string of injuries, and since he returned to action he’s made it to news suggesting he could leave Camp Nou, but Xavi believes he still has a lot to give the club.
Ahead of Barca’s second game in the La Liga this weekend, he was asked Fati possible move to Madrid, and replied: “Is that a joke or what? I was very clear on Ansu (Fati) last week. He is a massive asset to the club now and in the future. I can’t be any more clear.
“I don’t understand the debate being generated around him. He is a Barça player and we are counting on him.
“He is in good form and we are happy with his performances. We hope we can stop speaking about this now because it makes no sense.”
Fati made 51 appearances for Barca last season and scored 10 goals, although was mostly used off the bench.
Recall, Madrid boss had previously praised the Spaniard as a young player with a lot of talent and believes he has a brighter future ahead.
Barca played goalless in their opening game at Gatefe — a match where Fati also came in off the bench, but would want to do better when they host Cadiz at Camp Nou on Sunday.
