Napoli’s title hopes suffered another blow on Wednesday when their top scorer Victor Osimhen lashed out at the agent of his teammate Kvicha Kvaratskhelia on social media.
Osimhen was reacting to Mamuka Jugeli, who told a Georgian media outlet that the Nigerian star could join the Saudi Pro League “next summer” despite extending his contract recently, while his client would reject such a move for any amount of money.
According to the agent, “
Kvaratskhelia would never agree to a transfer to the SPL even if he is offered a billion.
In his words, “Kvicha would not accept a similar transfer, not even for a billion.
“For example, he would prefer to play (in Span’s LaLiga) for Real Madrid, (Germany’s Bundesliga for) Bayern Munich, Barcelona or maybe Manchester City. Kvaratskhelia has different objectives and preferences.”
The Nigerian striker and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia scored 38 goals together in Serie A last season to help Napoli win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years.
Reacting to the Jugeli’s remarks, Osimhen took to his Instagram story and wrote, “Dear Mamuka Jugeli, you are a piece of filth and a disgrace,” Osimhen wrote in an Instagram story in response.
“I’m embarrassed at your sense of reasoning. Dumbf—! KEEP MY NAME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!!!”
The striker is with the Nigeria squad as they get ready to start their AFCON campaign against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday. He has said before that he would choose Major League Soccer over the Saudi Pro League if given “the same conditions,” but praised the progress of the SPL as “something amazing.”
Osimhen, who was named African Player of the Year for his 26 goals in Napoli’s title winning 2022-23 season, renewed his contract with Napoli in December until 2026.
The 25-year-old has scored seven goals in 13 Serie A matches this season. Kvaratskhelia has five goals in 18 league games this term as the defending champions have failed to maintain their form, with Walter Mazzarri taking over from Rudi García as coach in November.
The club sits ninth in Serie A after losing four of their last six league matches, and they play bottom side Salernitana on Saturday.
