Afrobeat star Seun Keti has defended Mr. Joseph Aloba, father of late Nigerian singer Mohbad against critics who blamed him for the swift burial of his son.
Mohbad had passed away on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day.
Seun Kuti, in a recent interview on Nedu’s Thehonestbunch podcast, argued that the criticism directed at Mohbad’s father is rooted in poverty.
According to the Grammy Award nominee, “poverty is a big factor in the Mohbad issue. People accuse the father of wrongdoing because he buried his son quickly.”
He also questioned whether the same scrutiny would apply if a wealthy individual like businessman Femi Otedola had lost a child and buried them overnight, emphasizing the need for compassion and understanding for a grieving parent instead of unfounded accusations.
In pidgin, he said: “If na Otedola pikin die and he bury am overnight, wetin anybody go talk here? No be sey una go dey give am condolences visit for a house?
“Instead of us to be consoling the man, we are making him evil that can kill his son. Somebody that just lost his child. You like the boy pass am na hin dem dey bully the boy all these days and you no talk anything.”
The Lagos State Police Command announced last week that the late singer’s body has been exhumed and an autopsy has been carried.
Mohad’s death has led to series of speculations and accusations with his former label boss Naira Marley and his close associate Sam Larry the primary suspects.
However, the Nigerian Police Force and the Lagos Command has set up a 13-msn special team to investigate his death and an interim report is expected to be devilered within two weeks.
