Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, said that Nigeria is a very poor country, when he was a Special Guest on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Monday.
He said that the country’s wealth is overestimated and that the per capita income is low compared to other African nations. “We are a very poor country, we have a poor estimation of the wealth of the country,” he said.
He also said that the administration is trying to reduce the pressure on its finances by removing subsidies on petrol and unifying the exchange rate.
Onanuga denied that the federal workers are still owed emoluments by the Tinubu-led government.
He said that the office of the AuGF has reported a problem with the platform for disbursing the salaries, but that all federal workers have been paid according to a briefing he received this morning.
“I think we have a poor estimation of the wealth of the country, he added. “we are a very poor country..
“The office of the AuGF has said there is a challenge with the platform being used to disburse the salaries.
“According to a briefing I got this morning, yes, salaries were delayed, but all federal workers have been paid.”
Onanuga was instrumental to the All Progressive zcongress’ (APC) prior to the February 25 general election. After the the victory the President appointed him as one of his aides on media.
