Lagos police have confirmed the detention of Naira Marley as part of their investigation into the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad.
Mohbad, who died at age 27, was laid to rest on September 13.
Controversies surrounding the singer’s demise have led to accusations against Marley, with allegations of assault on Mohbad dating back to October 2022.
Since Mohbad’s passing, there have been widespread calls for the ban of Marlian Music (a record label owned by Naira Marley) and nationwide protests demanding justice for the singer.
Following the call, the Lagos police initiated a special investigation team on September 18 to probe Mohbad’s death and on Tuesday confirmed Marley’s custody for interrogation.
The Police posted on its X account, “Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley has been taken into custody for interrogation and other investigation activities.”
An autopsy on Mohbad’s exhumed corpse is pending results, and the Lagos state judiciary has initiated a coroner’s inquest to determine the cause of his death.
