The Kogi State Government has reported an attempted assassination on Governor Yahaya Bello, which took place a few kilometers from Abuja as he was en route to an official engagement from Lokoja, the state capital.
All Legit News learnt that the attack happened on Sunday, October 22, 2023, around 4 p.m.
Kogi’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, revealed that the attackers, disguised in military uniforms, ambushed the governor’s convoy, opening fire on his vehicle and others in the convoy.
He added that the governor’s security personnel quickly thwarted the attackers’ sinister intentions.
According to the commissioner, the attacks happened at three different points, and the state government has documented these incidents for thorough investigation.
While he also urged the citizens to remain vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
Mr. Fanwo said: “The attackers who were dressed in military uniforms waylaid the governor’s convoy and started shooting sporadically at his vehicle and other vehicles in the convoy. It took the swift intervention of the security personnel attached to the governor to foil the satanic plans of the unknown soldiers.
“The report of these strange attacks has been properly documented at security offices in the state and at the national level for prompt and thorough investigations to avert future occurrences.”
