The Department of State Services in Nigeria has initiated an investigation into the shooting incident that its personnel and a fashion designer at the Garki International Market.
The incident is said to have unfolded after customer of a fashion designer brought a DSS officer to confront the business owner, ultimately resulting in a shooting.
According to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, who shared details of the incident on social media, revealed that not only was the fashion designer shot, but a stray bullet also hit a salesgirl in her shop.
“On the evening of Sept. 7, 2023, a lady called some @OfficialDSSNG personnel to arrest her tailor who didn’t deliver her clothes,’ Makayla posted on X with photo of the incident.
“They came and not only shot him (tailor) but a stray bullet hit an innocent sales girl sitting at her shop. The action of the personnel angered marketers who attempted to block them from leaving the market. The personnel quickly took to their heels while the marketers pelted their vehicle with stones.”
The DSS has reacted to the development through a statement issued by its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, acknowledging the incident and promising a thorough investigation.
The secret police emphasized that it would take appropriate disciplinary actions against any staff found responsible for misconduct.
According to repprts, order has been restored in the market after the intervention of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command. Firearm used during the incident have also been recovered.
Also, the FCT Commissioner of Police encouraged the public to avoid engaging in destructive actions involving public property and urged them to use emergency means for assistance when necessary.
