The Incumbent Rivers state Government at the prior Swearing in programme held in 2015 at the Yakubu Gowon stadium, I remember with Nostalgia how the Governor read through what he termed a blueprint. And the first declaration made was the “Operation Zero potholes” in the Porthacourt Metropolis, at the initials there was vigour and seeming Readiness to the combat potholes in our roads.
In recent times the Agency that saw through the road Maintainance of the state have been attenuated, and as a result of this major routes/Roads have been left to deteriorate . one amongst the many dilapidated Routes that needs urgent attention is the “Location T Junction along NTA road . overnight that spot have metamorphosed into what I term a death trap.
The traffic Congestions along that route as a result of the Potholes is something one wouldn’t love to experience.
At this juncture, I am pained and worried over the situation. I hereby express my utmost dissatisfaction over the insensitivity of the RSG in the Amelioration of the plight of the road users and Citizens that ply that route.
The golden status of the “Garden city” that once held sway in our dear state have been lost overtime and the government of the day is not showing readiness to meet up the standard.
The city of Port Harcourt is littered with solid waste indiscriminately positioned at the nooks and cranny of the state thereby posing health hazard, security of Life and Property is not Guaranteed , no job, no tangible empowerment, no cardinal project.
According to the social contract theorist , when the Government fails to secure their natural Rights (John Locke) or satisfy the best in interest of Society ( “General will ” according to Rousseau ) citizens can withdraw their obligation to obey, or change the leadership through elections.
Rivers State Government what is the way forward?
