The Minister of State for Petroleum, who is also the former governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Chief (Hon) Timipre Sylva alongside the General Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC) Mr. Mele Kyari, on a working visit to Belema, Offoin Ama and Ngeje in Akuku-Toru LG of Rivers State yesterday, the host communities of the Oil Mining Lease (OML) 25 flow station and its facilities.
Mr. Bashir Ahmaad made disclosed this on Sunday evening on his Twitter handle as he stated that the OML 25 flow station was shutdown for over two years by its host communities over disagreement between Shell and communities. The station was reopened yesterday by the GMD of NNPC Mr. Kyari after reaching an agreement between the two parties.
In their separate addresses at the occasion, Sylva and Kyari said that the President Buhari led administration would do everything within its powers to ensure a lasting peace and security in the nation’s oil producing host communities and the entire Niger Delta region.
We have engaged the communities and Shell to make sure that this dispute between them is brought to a closure, the communities have agreed to vacant the facility to allow petroleum operations to continue, Kyari added.
