If Governor Wike had continued and sustained the Foreign Scholarship Program and skill acquisition/training, more Rivers State sons and daughters would have been sent abroad for Bsc, Msc, PhD and other Professional certifications.
The multiplier effect is that some will finish Their Program, return to Rivers State and possibly get a good job with their Professional certificates and support their families. Some will proceed to further Programs and make us proud Internationally while others might chose to marry, work, become permanent residents and support their families and friends back home. I know many of them that are currently residing in the UK, Australia,USA, Canada and Germany etc after study.
Immediately he assumed Office as Governor, he abolished Foreign Scholarship Program and scrapped Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA). The students that were already on State Government scholarship abroad, he abandoned them. Consequently, from 2015 till date, no Rivers State son or daughter has traveled abroad on a State Government sponsored scholarship or skill acquisition….this is one of the greatest blunders of Governor WIKE’S administration.
If States like Oyo, Ekiti, Kano and Kaduna,Cross River, Bayelsa, Delta and Akwaibom could award foriegn scholarship to their indigens, what stopped Rivers State from doing it? States are building human capacity and competence on their youth and preparing them for future leadership in the political and economic arena. should we also blame the Federal Government on this?
