BIOGRAPHY: Sir (Dr.) Nkasiobi Silas Oguzor

We present to you the PERSONALITY PROFILE of an outstanding scholar with National and International recognitions.

Sir (Dr.) Nkasiobi Silas Oguzor is a true son of the legendary kingdom of Ekpeye; specifically Okporowo town in Ahoada East Local Government of Rivers State.

Born on 9th May 1961, Oguzor respectively holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degrees in Agronomy and Agro-Chemistry from the distinguished Kuban Agricultural Institute in the United Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR), and a Technical Teachers Certificate (TTC) from the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku.

On his joining the service of the Federal College of Education, (Technical), Omoku in 1992, his prudence and dedication to duty made him a point of attraction for several appointments within and without the college environment.

Dr. Oguzor was once a member of the Board for the Resuscitation of Rivers State School-to-Land Authority, member Oil Mineral Producing Area Commission (OMPADEC) Committee for the establishment of science centres in the Niger Delta Region.

At the home front, Dr. Oguzor is a dedicated patriot of Community Development who has in no small way contributed to the positive growth and development of Ekpeye Kingdom.

This trait has made his people to love and cherish him. In this regard, as a confirmation of his patriotism, he was unanimously appointed the President-General of his Kingdom’s apex development union, the Ozugbani Ekpeye.

Dr. Oguzor’s contribution to Ekpeye land cannot be over emphasized; as he is always available to serve his people, this he demonstrated again in serving his people as the flood disaster management committee chairman for the Ekpeye land in 2018.

While in the service of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku. He has held the positions of Head of Department Agricultural Education, Dean, School of Vocational Education; Deputy Provost of the College for two consecutive terms, Provost for two term, Chairman, Board of Governors, College Demonstration Secondary School (DSS) among others.

He was instrumental to the establishment of a Demonstration Secondary School (DSS) by the FCE (T) Omoku to serve as a lead in the provision of quality secondary education. Billed to leave indelible marks in the college and for the people of Ogba Egbema Ndoni and the Ekpeye Kingdoms.

He championed the establishment of a “Community Radio”, Flame 101 (FM): the first in the entire Orashi Region. The Radio frequency covers a wave of 25 Kilo-watts.

The Community Radio would save the cost and risks which may result from travelling to Port Harcourt and others for announcements. And to assist in the dissemination of information at the grassroots apart from promotion of culture, entertainment and generation of revenue for the college.

The establishments of a Centre for Information Technology (ICT) and an E-library in the college have distinguished Dr. Oguzor as a community/rural development strategist, whose approaches are exceptional.

The ICT Centre is capable of conducting training for nearly one hundred students, while the E-library is also capable of containing more than thirty learners at a time.

Two other important Community development targeted projects which Dr. Oguzor has initiated and actualized through the college are the Hydro-form Interlocking factory and a Printing Press equipped with the modern printing technology machinery, capable of handling quality mass production of prints.

The Hydro-form interlocking factory has the capability to produce all types of block materials with any type of sand. When this factory is fully in operation, it would produce more than one thousand and five hundred blocks or bricks a day. It will save cost of going far and wide to buy interlocking blocks, bricks, etc.

The college, by Dr. Oguzor’s initiative, has made several community developments driven donations to institution in the three kingdoms and beyond.

For instance, a 5.5 KVA Generator Set was donated to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Omoku, in order to enhance its functionality, which is precedent to ensuring the security of lives and property of people living in the area.

In 2012, he succeeded in upgrading the college to a degree awarding institution after the landmark administrative annexation with the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsuka; with the introduction of more departments and department.

And in multiplier effect, created so many jobs for the teaming unemployed Nigerians. Dr. N.S Oguzor also in his expansionist program successfully moved the college from its old site in Omoku to permanent a site Obrikom to accommodate the increasing academic programs of the college.

Such persons as Dr. N.S. Oguzor who, though, are not natives of their places of work, but who see the need to do all their best possible to encourage the growth and development of the areas they work, are easy targets of history, posterity and iconisation.

The same marks apply to the lovely legacies which Dr. Oguzor made on his exit as the Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku.

He is happily married with kids.
